Notes:
Ptelea viscosa L. and Dodonaea viscosa Jacq. are nomenclaturally independent as they are based on different types. Jacquin was perhaps unaware that Linnaeus had placed the species (already well known) in Ptelea.A somewhat complicated system of dividing this widespread species into infra-specific taxa (varieties, forms and subforms) was elaborated by Radlkofer (op. cit.: 1368 et seq.) The only specimen in that work cited from our area appears under “specimina quoad formam indeterminata”. Brenan (loc. cit. 1953) says that the Brass specimens from Nyasaland are referable to var. vulgaris forma burmanniana (DC.) Radlk. as defined by Radlkofer.
